Under the terms of Mourinho's current contract, he is permitted to terminate the deal without a penalty only within a 10-day window following the end of the season. Should the official appointment at his new club be delayed—potentially due to upcoming presidential elections at Real Madrid—the club will be forced to pay a 15 million euro release fee.
Changes at the Spanish club appear imminent, as current head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has already said his goodbyes to the squad, signalling a transition for the new season.
