Former Bayern Munich technical director Michael Reschke has revealed that the club attempted to recruit Julian Nagelsmann long before his eventual appointment in 2021. The German record champions had been tracking the young talent as far back as 2015.
According to Reschke, the plan was to bring Nagelsmann in as the U19 coach within the club's broader setup under Pep Guardiola. He noted that the coach, being a local boy, was highly interested in the move at the time.

Uli Hoeneß personally supported the initiative and discussed the prospect with Hoffenheim patron Dietmar Hopp. However, the move was blocked by Hopp, who insisted that Nagelsmann was staying at the club as they had significant future plans for him, eventually appointing him to lead the first team in 2016 at just 28 years old.
