Barcelona are planning a major squad overhaul as they look to back Hansi Flick in the upcoming transfer window. The club has reportedly requested a €210 million credit line to ensure they can move quickly in the market without needing to wait for player sales to register new arrivals.
The primary target for the Catalan side is Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez. Seen as the long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski, who recently departed for Chicago Fire, Alvarez is viewed as a transformative signing. Negotiations are expected to intensify following the conclusion of the World Cup.
In addition to the Argentine striker, Barcelona are actively pursuing Joao Cancelo and Karim Adeyemi. While the move for Adeyemi is reportedly nearing completion, the pursuit of Cancelo remains more complex due to outstanding tax issues that the club must address. These signings are intended to help the club bridge the gap to Europe's elite and comply with La Liga’s strict spending rules.
Beyond transfer fees, the loan will also support club operations and payroll, maintaining financial stability during this recruitment push. The club has already signaled its aggressive intent this summer by securing the signing of Anthony Gordon for an initial €70m.
