Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste has publicly addressed the sharp criticism from Atletico Madrid management regarding the club's pursuit of forward Julian Alvarez. The tension between the two clubs escalated during the Champions League league phase draw in Monaco, where representatives from both sides exchanged heated remarks.
Yuste expressed his anger at the statements made by Gil Marin, labeling them as lacking in manners and respect.
What surprises me is that, knowing him, he was able to make these statements that lack manners and respect. He crossed a red line that I do not understand at all. These are statements that anger me and that I do not share. Rafa Yuste
Despite the friction, Yuste maintained that Barcelona acted with integrity throughout their interest in Alvarez. He stressed that the club respects both its opponents and their players. According to the vice-president, if a player expresses a desire to join Barcelona, the club will naturally explore the possibility of a move.
During their time in Monaco, Yuste held a brief exchange with Atletico president Enrique Cerezo and members of the Gil family. While emphasizing that basic manners were maintained, he reiterated that Barcelona remains calm and clear in its conscience. Atletico Madrid continues to firmly refuse any negotiations with the Catalan club regarding the player, while Barcelona still refuses to accept that the deal is dead with the transfer window closing.
