Atletico Madrid reach €45m agreement for Sporting CP's Morten Hjulmand
Atletico Madrid have agreed a €45m deal with Sporting CP to sign Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand on a contract until 2031.
Atletico Madrid have officially reached an agreement with Sporting CP for the transfer of Morten Hjulmand. The deal is valued at €40 million in fixed fees, with an additional €5 million in performance-based add-ons.
The 27-year-old midfielder is currently traveling to Spain to undergo medical examinations and finalize his move to La Liga. He is expected to sign a long-term contract at the Metropolitano, keeping him at the club until June 2031. Following his medical, Hjulmand will make a brief return to Lisbon to formally bid farewell to his teammates and the coaching staff.
This move concludes a highly successful period for Hjulmand in Portugal, where he transformed into the team's captain and a central figure, winning two league titles and the Taca de Portugal. Under manager Diego Simeone, the Danish international is expected to provide physical defensive coverage and technical security in the heart of Atletico's midfield.
The acquisition effectively ends speculation regarding interest from the Premier League and Serie A, as Hjulmand had previously been linked with potential moves to both Manchester United and AC Milan.
