Abdulmalik agrees Boreham Wood exit to beat Jamie Vardy's record
Swedish club Djurgardens have agreed a National League record fee, thought to be over £1.5m, to sign winger Abdul Abdulmalik from Boreham Wood.
Swedish club Djurgardens have agreed to sign winger Abdul Abdulmalik from Boreham Wood for a fee thought to be in excess of £1.5m. The deal sets a new record for a player moving from England's fifth tier.
The move surpasses the previous record set in 2012, when Leicester City paid Fleetwood Town £1m for Jamie Vardy. The 23-year-old is currently in Sweden undergoing a medical.
Abdulmalik enjoyed a breakout 2025-26 campaign, recording 17 goals and 10 assists as Boreham Wood reached the National League play-off final at Wembley. The agreement ends a long-running saga, with the club having previously rejected bids of £1m and £1.5m earlier this summer.
I'm ready for the next challenge. I'm ready to prove to myself and those around me that I'm capable of reaching the top. Abdul Abdulmalik
The player had made himself unavailable for selection since mid-August to facilitate the move. Other English clubs, including Peterborough United, had also expressed interest. Djurgardens currently sit fifth in the Allsvenskan and remain in contention for European qualification.
