16-year-old Kyle Glasgow called up to Scotland U21 squad

16-year-old forward Kyle Glasgow has been included in Tony Docherty's first Scotland Under-21 squad. The youngster, who is currently on loan at Alloa Athletic from Rangers, has impressed with three goals in 10 appearances for the Scottish League 1 side.

Tony Docherty, who has replaced Scot Gemmill at the helm, expressed his satisfaction with the player's development. Docherty noted that the co-operation agreements allowing Premiership clubs to loan players to lower league sides are working well, with Glasgow serving as a prime example. "He's holding his own but more importantly, he's learning the game. Selection for squads is all based on performance and there's an example of a young player that's performing really well," Docherty stated.

The squad is preparing for two crucial European Championship qualifying fixtures against Azerbaijan and Bulgaria. Scotland remains in the hunt for a play-off spot, though they must win both matches and hope for favorable results elsewhere to overtake the Czech Republic.

Docherty has brought in a fresh approach, naming seven uncapped players in his first selection. Working alongside Scotland head coach Sebastien Pocognoli and assistant Steven Naismith, Docherty intends to instill a winning, attacking mentality in the team as part of a wider effort to improve the pathway for young players in Scottish football.
