Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalic has identified the upcoming World Cup knockout match against Portugal as his team's toughest challenge in the tournament so far. Dalic emphasized that the game will likely be decided by which side manages to control the midfield.

Dalic praised the tactical quality and technical proficiency of the Portuguese squad, warning his players that there is zero room for error. «We are facing the most difficult challenge possible, and that challenge is named Portugal,» Dalic stated, noting that the opponent is a highly compact team capable of punishing even minor mistakes.

Despite Croatia's poor historical record against the Portuguese — having never defeated them in an official competitive match — Dalic remains confident. He believes the lessons learned during the group stage will help his side as they fight for a spot in the next round.

The match holds additional significance as it could mark the final World Cup appearance for generational icons Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo. Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic noted that the team is fully committed to doing everything possible to help their captain extend his journey in the competition.
