France were held to a 1-1 draw by Italy in their UEFA Nations League clash at the Stade de France. Despite a moment of brilliance from Michael Olise, who opened the scoring, Alessandro Bastoni’s equalizer ensured the points were shared in Paris.
Following the match, forward Desire Doue spoke about the team's collective disappointment at not securing a win for the home supporters. However, he revealed that head coach Zinedine Zidane offered immediate reassurance in the dressing room, confirming that the players' tactical application was correct.
Of course, we’re a little disappointed with the result. We really wanted to win this evening here at the Stade de France in front of our fans. We won’t throw the positives away though. We applied the instructions from the coach in many aspects. We’re on the right path, as he said in the dressing room. Desire Doue
The match highlighted the tactical growth of France's young attacking unit, which maintained 65 per cent possession and consistently tested Italy's defensive block. Doue and Olise were central to Zidane’s high-intensity pressing system throughout the evening, ensuring France remained composed even after Dayot Upamecano was sent off late in the game.
The squad is now turning its focus to Monday’s second home fixture at the Stade de France. The players are aiming to translate their positive performances into a statement victory as they seek their first win of the international window.
