France head coach Zinedine Zidane is preparing his team for a crucial Nations League encounter against Belgium. Following a 1-1 draw with Italy at the Stade de France, the coaching staff is forced to implement significant squad changes.
Les Bleus are dealing with notable absences: attacking leader Kylian Mbappé is sidelined with a knee injury, while defender Dayot Upamecano is suspended for the fixture. In light of these challenges, Zidane emphasized the importance of squad depth.
There will be changes, that's for sure. It's our fourth match, and we can't just play with the same squad. We will make smart changes, and above all, we will do it to be competitive. Zinedine Zidane
The French manager added that rotation serves as a way to maintain morale within the dressing room, ensuring every player feels involved. Zidane, who succeeded Didier Deschamps after his 14-year tenure, admitted that his new role brings him significant inspiration, despite the lack of daily club-level routine.
Their opponents, Belgium, managed by Mark van Bommel, currently sit second in Group A1. Even though the visitors will be without suspended captains Youri Tielemans and Kevin De Bruyne, Zidane remains wary of the challenge, acknowledging the individual and collective strength of the Belgian side.
