Wrexham revel in playing at Yankee Stadium: ‘It’s something we’ll always remember’

Wrexham’s modern era continued with a visit to the historic Yankee Stadium, as the Welsh club faced Premier League side Liverpool in a pre-season friendly. Despite a narrow 1-0 defeat, the occasion marked another major venue in the club’s growing list of international appearances since their 2021 takeover.

Manager Phil Parkinson was full of praise for the venue, stating: “We’re very fortunate to have experienced all these great occasions. Creating memories we’ll never forget and this year’s trip has been no different, with Yankee Stadium one of the most iconic around.”

The venue, designed by Populous—the same firm managing the redevelopment of Wrexham’s own Racecourse Ground—offered a unique, if unconventional, playing environment due to the stadium's baseball-focused design.

While the narrow pitch dimensions and stadium layout presented a challenge, the atmosphere and history of the Bronx venue made it a standout moment for the players and staff. The club has effectively turned these high-profile tours into a trademark of their current growth strategy.
