Vitaliy Mykolenko set for first return to Ukraine since 2022

Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko is preparing for his first visit to Ukraine in four years to join the national team training camp.

Everton and Ukraine national team defender Vitaliy Mykolenko has opened up about his upcoming return to his home country. The player has not been back in Ukraine since departing on January 31, 2022.

Mykolenko expressed excitement about returning to his homeland to participate in the upcoming training camp. While he hopes to spend time with his parents, he intends to remain focused on the team's training schedule.

I left for the last time on January 31, 2022. And I haven't been there since. So I am very, very happy to return, to return to my native land and hold the training camp there. Vitaliy Mykolenko

Beyond his football commitments, the defender plans to undergo a medical check-up while in the country. He noted his preference for local medical services, stating: «Maybe I'll see some friends. And, of course, I'll go to the clinic for a check-up, because we have the best. It's better to do everything in Ukraine.»

This training camp will be the first one hosted in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion. The decision was made by the new head coach, Andrea Maldera.
