Tomas Palacios makes Argentina debut: Details of his Estudiantes loan
Inter-owned defender Tomas Palacios earned his first senior cap for Argentina and continues his development on loan at Estudiantes.
Defender Tomas Palacios reached a major milestone in his professional career, making his official debut for the Argentina senior national team. The 21-year-old stepped onto the pitch at half-time, replacing Lisandro Martinez during Argentina's 7-0 friendly victory over Burkina Faso.
"Happy to make my debut in the most beautiful shirt in the world. I am feeling so many emotions; today I can say I have fulfilled one of my dreams. Thank you to all the people who are always close to me, especially my family. Vamos Argentina!" Tomas Palacios
Following a difficult loan spell at Monza, Palacios and Inter agreed that a return to Argentina was the most effective way to reignite his career. During the 2026 winter transfer window, he joined Estudiantes, a club with whom Inter shares a strong professional relationship.
The loan deal runs until 31 December 2026 and includes a purchase option set at 6.5 million euros. Because the agreement does not include a buy-back clause, Estudiantes holds the power to make the move permanent if they choose to trigger the clause. Inter, however, remains in close contact with the Argentine club, leaving doors open for future developments.
