England head coach Thomas Tuchel has opened up about his squad selection for the upcoming World Cup. The manager stressed that his priority was to build the best possible collective rather than simply selecting the 26 most talented individual players.
«Teams win championships, it is that simple. What we are trying to achieve this summer can only be achieved as a team. We have selected a very balanced squad where all 26 players are 100% committed, understand their roles, and are dedicated to the spirit of selflessness». Thomas Tuchel
Tuchel explicitly stated that the team's goal is to win the World Cup, while noting the need for mental toughness and a bit of luck in the knockout stages. He emphasized that the players are prepared for high-pressure situations, including extra time and penalty shootouts.
The squad is scheduled to gather in Miami on June 1 for a training camp designed to prepare them for the tournament's late stages in demanding heat and humidity. England will also play friendly matches against New Zealand on June 6 and Costa Rica on June 10 before heading to their main base camp in Kansas City.
