The Teresa Herrera Trophy remains one of the oldest and most recognized summer football tournaments globally. Held in A Coruña, Galicia, since its inception in 1946, it has traditionally served as the main presentation match for Deportivo La Coruña before the start of the official season.
Originally created as a charity initiative to raise funds for city hospitals during a period of economic hardship, the competition evolved into a prestigious sporting tradition. Over the decades, giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, and Juventus have participated, along with world-class icons like Pelé and Zico.
In 2026, the tournament reaches its 81st edition. The men's fixture will feature hosts Deportivo La Coruña against the historic Real Madrid, scheduled for August 12 at the ABANCA-RIAZOR stadium.
The tournament also continues its commitment to women's football, which has been part of the event since 2013. On August 13, Dépor ABANCA will face FC Porto, further expanding the competition's legacy within the women's game.
