Teenager denies sending racist message to England footballer Jess Carter

A 19-year-old man, Aaryan Aggarwal, has denied sending a racist message to England defender Jess Carter via Instagram. The case was heard at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court.
Prosecutors allege that on 17 July 2025, during the Women's Euro 2025 tournament, Aggarwal sent a message to the footballer containing personal insults and a racial slur following England's match against Sweden. The defendant is charged with sending a public communication that was offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing.
Deputy district judge Christopher Maynard released Aggarwal on bail with strict conditions, prohibiting him from contacting Carter or posting about her online. The court warned that any breach of these conditions would likely lead to custody.
The trial is set to take place at Cambridge Magistrates' Court on 3 March.
