Southampton FC Women face budget cuts ahead of new season
Southampton Women's head coach Simon Parker confirms significant budget cuts and a relocation to a smaller stadium for the upcoming campaign.
Southampton's women's side is entering the new season with significantly reduced funding, as head coach Simon Parker describes a "challenging" summer for the club. The financial shift has necessitated a change in home venue, with the team moving away from St Mary's Stadium, their home for the past four seasons.
For the majority of the 2026-27 campaign, the team will play at Eastleigh FC's Silverlake Stadium. This move to a venue with a capacity of just over 5,000 marks a stark contrast to the 30,000-plus capacity of St Mary's. Parker noted that while he would prefer to stay at the main stadium, the financial realities of the situation are outside of his control, though he hopes the smaller venue will foster a more intimate atmosphere.
The club is now operating with the smallest budget in the WSL 2. This financial pressure has directly affected the squad, leading to the departures of several key players, including captain Atlanta Primus, Aimee Palmer, and Tara Bourne. Additionally, director of football Marieanne Spacey-Cale, who was instrumental in the team's rise, has stepped down.

Last season, Southampton finished fifth—their highest position since reforming nine years ago—and were involved in the promotion race for much of the campaign. While the club's strategy has had to change, Parker is focusing on the positives, noting that they will still play at least three games at St Mary's this season. The team kicks off their league campaign away at Durham on 6 September.
