Ahead of the crucial Nations League showdown against Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina manager Sergej Barbarez has addressed the media regarding the departure of iconic captain Edin Dzeko. Barbarez confirmed the striker is set to travel to Germany and shared his perspective on their friendship beyond the pitch.
I think he has to go to Germany today. I would be glad if he appeared, to see him once again. To be honest, I'm not a friend of some goodbyes, both in private life and not like this. We will see each other many more times in our lives as we have until now. That is the most important thing, that we remain friends, great people who are dignified and who hold on to each other. Despite losing their talisman, Barbarez remains optimistic about the squad's readiness. With 25 players fit and available, the manager is focusing on managing fatigue following the intense draw with Sweden. The staff also addressed the situation surrounding Samed Bazdar, whose integration was hampered by injury and roster limitations upon Dzeko's brief return.
Looking toward Poland, Barbarez acknowledged the shared challenge of missing a legendary figure, as Robert Lewandowski is also sidelined for the fixture. While noting the psychological impact of such absences, the manager warned that Poland’s squad depth remains a significant threat regardless of individual stars.
