Brazilian giants Sao Paulo have identified former Leicester City talisman Jamie Vardy as a potential target to bolster their attacking options. The 39-year-old is currently a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Italian side Cremonese.
The move is being considered as a 'market opportunity' by the club's board. While some within the hierarchy believe Vardy’s experience and winning mentality would be an invaluable addition to the squad, others are concerned about the financial commitment required for a player who will turn 40 in January.
Vardy recorded seven goals in 29 appearances during his recent spell in Italy, a campaign that ended in relegation to Serie B. For Sao Paulo, the pursuit comes at a time when the team is struggling for goals, having netted just five times in their last six outings while sitting 13th in the league table.
Formal negotiations have not yet commenced as the club continues its assessment of the striker's fitness and technical suitability. Vardy, who famously led Leicester City to their historic 2015-16 Premier League title, is currently weighing his options after returning to England.
