São Paulo eyes financial windfall from Juan's potential CSKA move
Academy product Juan Santos is nearing a transfer from Göztepe to CSKA Moscow, potentially triggering a sell-on clause for São Paulo.
São Paulo could be set for a financial boost as former academy graduate Juan Santos nears a move from Turkish club Göztepe to CSKA Moscow. Talks between the clubs are reportedly in the advanced stages.
When São Paulo sold the forward to English side Southampton in August 2024 for 900,000 euros, the club negotiated a sell-on clause. This clause entitles the Brazilian club to a percentage of any profit made if the player is sold for a higher fee in the future. Should the move to Russia proceed at a higher valuation, the Tricolor will be entitled to a cut.
Juan spent time with the São Paulo professional squad between 2022 and 2024, making 81 appearances, scoring seven goals, and providing five assists. He was part of the squad that won the 2023 Copa do Brasil and the 2024 Supercopa Rei.
For the club, this potential income is particularly relevant as they strive to meet their 2026 budget target for player sales. With the club having only raised approximately 23 million reais by July against a 180 million goal, any additional revenue is significant.
