AS Saint-Etienne has publicly offered its support to former youth academy player Kenzo Kies. The 21-year-old is currently in a state of brain death following a drowning incident in the Rhone river near Lyon.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Monday evening to assist four young men in the water. While three managed to escape the river safely, Kies was rescued in critical condition. Reports indicate the group was in an area where swimming is prohibited.

Kies spent seven years in the Saint-Etienne academy between 2018 and 2025. He is currently under contract with En Avant de Guingamp and previously featured for the youth setups of Olympique Lyonnais and AS Saint-Priest.
