Spain secured their spot in the quarter-finals after a dramatic 91st-minute goal from Mikel Merino sealed a 1-0 victory over Portugal. However, the post-match atmosphere was overshadowed by a heated altercation between Spain midfielder Rodri and Portugal's Bernardo Silva.
Rodri, who dominated the midfield throughout the match, admitted that his decision to celebrate a missed chance by his former Manchester City team-mate was a mistake. He sought to address the tension immediately following the final whistle.

For Portugal, the loss marked a significant turning point as manager Roberto Martinez confirmed his resignation. The team faces a period of transition, with veteran coach Jorge Jesus linked to the role.
Spain must now turn their attention to a challenging quarter-final clash against Belgium, scheduled for July 10 in Los Angeles. The team will look to improve their clinical edge after a testing encounter against the Portuguese side.
