Rio Ngumoha makes England history! Liverpool starlet joins elite Three Lions club

Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha has etched his name into the history books, becoming the third-youngest player to ever make a competitive appearance for the England men's national team. The milestone occurred during the Three Lions' 2-0 Nations League victory in Prague.

The 18-year-old was introduced in the 71st minute, replacing Arsenal star Bukayo Saka. This appearance was especially significant for the youngster, who had been left out of the matchday squad for the previous defeat against Spain.

Stepping onto the pitch at 18 years and 31 days old, Ngumoha joins an elite group. Wayne Rooney holds the record for the youngest competitive debutant at 17 years and 156 days, while Jude Bellingham sits second at 17 years and 269 days.

Despite a summer of disappointment after missing out on the tournament squad, Ngumoha's rapid development has kept him in international contention. He has enjoyed a strong start to the 2026-27 season, featuring in five of Liverpool's first seven competitive matches.

Looking ahead, Ngumoha aims to build on this appearance during the current international window. Following the upcoming fixture against Croatia, the teenager will return to Merseyside, where Liverpool prepare for a major Premier League clash against Manchester City on October 11.
