Quique Pina sentenced to two years and six months in prison
The former Granada CF president has been sentenced by the National Court for five crimes against the Public Treasury.
Spain's National Court has sentenced former Granada CF president Quique Pina to two years and six months in prison for five crimes against the Public Treasury, related to a separate branch of the 'Libero' case.
The court found that during his tenure as a player agent and club executive, Pina defrauded 2.8 million euros. To conceal his personal income and avoid asset seizures, he utilized a shell company formally managed by his sister, who was also convicted in the case. He failed to file income tax returns between 2012 and 2015.
The ruling details that Pina channeled professional commissions and a two-million-euro severance payment from the club through this company. Funds from the club were also used to finance luxury goods, including a yacht and high-end vehicles such as a Bentley, a Porsche, and an Aston Martin. The sentence mandates the payment of over two million euros to the tax authorities and a five-year ban on receiving government subsidies.
Pina's defense team has announced plans to appeal the decision to the National Court's appeals division. They argue that the sentence is not cumulative and hope the prison term will be substituted by a fine or significantly reduced.
