In an unconventional move within the European transfer market, Paris Saint-Germain have paid €3.3m to Braga without actually signing a new player for Luis Enrique's squad. The investment is specifically tied to Mario Dorgeles, a 22-year-old midfielder who has become one of the most sought-after prospects in the Portuguese league.
According to Foot Mercato, this payment serves as a "right of preference." This arrangement effectively places the French giants at the front of the line should Braga decide to sell the player in the future. The agreement grants PSG a privileged position covering 100% of the economic and sporting rights regarding a potential future sale.
Dorgeles arrived in Portugal in the summer of 2025 from Danish side Nordsjaelland. A product of the Right to Dream academy, he impressed during his debut season with 7 goals and 4 assists in 39 matches. Despite a quieter start to the 2026-27 campaign, his market value remains high.
PSG's move is clearly aimed at stifling competition, particularly from Premier League clubs Arsenal and Chelsea, who have scouted the Ivorian extensively. By securing this preference clause, PSG have built a financial barrier between the player and his English suitors, mitigating the risk of being priced out later.
The deal was facilitated by existing institutional links, as Qatar Sports Investments—the owners of PSG—hold a 29.6% stake in the Portuguese side. While this does not guarantee a transfer, the payment provides PSG with a significant safety net in their pursuit of the midfielder.
