Premier League yellow card suspension rules explained
A breakdown of the disciplinary thresholds for yellow cards in the Premier League and how suspensions are triggered.

In the Premier League, players face automatic suspensions if they accumulate a specific number of yellow cards during the season. The primary threshold is five cautions; any player who collects five yellow cards before the conclusion of their team's 19th league match will receive a one-match ban.
Once the season passes the halfway point, the rules adjust. If a player reaches 10 yellow cards before the end of their club's 32nd league match, they are handed a two-match suspension. Further thresholds are set at 15 and 20 cautions. Reaching 15 yellow cards results in a three-match ban, while the punishment for hitting 20 is determined by a regulatory commission.
These cut-offs remain in effect for the duration of the Premier League season and do not reset. Early in the current campaign, players such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Adam Smith, and Vitaly Janelt have already recorded three bookings, placing them at risk of suspension should they reach the five-card limit before the 19th-round cutoff.
