Greek club Panathinaikos has announced on its official website that it has parted ways with head coach Rafael Benitez. "We thank the Spanish coach and his staff for the professionalism and high human qualities they demonstrated during their time at our club. We wish Rafael Benitez success in his future professional career," the statement said.

Benitez took charge of the team mid-season and oversaw 41 matches. Under his leadership, the "Greens" secured 20 wins, 11 draws, and 10 defeats. In the Greek league, Panathinaikos finished in fourth place with 52 points, 20 fewer than champions AEK.

The team also competed in the Europa League, where they were eliminated by Real Betis in the Round of 16 (1:4 on aggregate), and exited the Greek Cup in the semi-finals after losing to PAOK (0:3 on aggregate).

It was previously reported that former Ukraine national team coach Serhiy Rebrov could be a candidate to take over at Panathinaikos.
