Lille striker Olivier Giroud has reflected on his brief stint in Major League Soccer, admitting that his time with LAFC failed to meet his sporting expectations. The 40-year-old forward returned to French football after a short period across the Atlantic between 2024 and 2025.

"On the football front, it wasn't really for me. I missed this passion, this fervour, these boiling stadiums of Europe and the competition," said Olivier Giroud.

Giroud did not hold back when discussing the realities of the North American footballing landscape. Despite winning the US Open Cup during his tenure, the Frenchman felt there was a distinct lack of genuine football heritage. He was blunt in his assessment, stating: "For me, the United States is not a football country."

During his time with the MLS club, Giroud recorded five goals and three assists in 38 appearances. Having left California to seek a more intense sporting environment, the veteran is now focused on his duties with Lille. He has integrated into the squad and already registered one goal in five appearances, looking to make a significant impact as the season progresses.
