Spain national team leader Mikel Merino addressed the media at the team's base in Tennessee to discuss the squad's progress in the 2026 World Cup. Following a frustrating scoreless draw in their opening match against Cape Verde, Merino emphasized the need for the team to move past the disappointment and focus on tactical adjustments.
Despite controlling 74% of possession and generating 23 shots, Spain failed to find the back of the net. Merino highlighted that the team is currently working with the coaching staff to find the right formula for their upcoming Group H fixtures.
Every player has their own way of dealing with disappointment. We are already thinking about what we need to improve. Even when we win, there is always room for improvement. We remain self-critical. Mikel Merino
