France's 3-0 victory over Iraq in the second round of the 2026 World Cup group stage was a milestone occasion for captain Kylian Mbappe, as the forward made his 100th appearance for the national team.

The 27-year-old marked the occasion with a brace, bringing his total tally for Les Bleus to 60 goals. His two strikes against Iraq also saw him reach 16 goals in World Cup history, leveling the record previously held by German legend Miroslav Klose.

Mbappe achieved this feat with remarkable efficiency, needing only 16 matches to reach the 16-goal mark, whereas Klose required 24 games to achieve the same total. Lionel Messi recently broke Klose's record just yesterday, June 22, and currently leads the charts with 18 goals.
