Mauro Junior earns maiden Brazil call-up from Carlo Ancelotti

PSV Eindhoven captain Mauro Junior has officially arrived in Carlo Ancelotti's senior Brazil squad for the upcoming tour across Australia and India. The 27-year-old's selection marks a significant international milestone, ending a six-year absence from the national setup.

The inclusion follows public discussions regarding the defender's openness to acquiring Dutch citizenship to represent the Netherlands. However, the call-up to the Selecao confirms his international commitment to his home country. Mauro Junior previously represented Brazil across youth categories from Under-15 to Under-23 level.

Speaking to CBF TV, the PSV skipper reflected on his tactical evolution. Once an attacking midfielder wearing the number 10 shirt during his youth days, he has seamlessly adapted to a full-back role. He credits legends like Marcelo and Roberto Carlos as his primary sources of inspiration during this transition.

Since joining the Eredivisie side in 2017, the defender has made over 200 appearances and secured four league titles. He emphasized that this experience has prepared him for the intensity of senior international football. Brazil's tour begins with matches against Australia and concludes with a fixture against India in October.
