Manchester United are waiting for an update on the condition of Manuel Ugarte after the midfielder was stretchered off during Uruguay's World Cup match against Spain in Guadalajara.
The 25-year-old twisted awkwardly while attempting a tackle in the build-up to Spain's winning goal. Visibly distraught as he left the pitch, Ugarte's injury has sparked concerns over its long-term impact. United are currently awaiting word from Uruguay's medical staff before determining their next steps.
The injury comes at a delicate time for Ugarte, who had hoped to use the tournament to showcase his form ahead of the summer transfer window. Since arriving from Paris St-Germain in 2024 for £50.8m, the midfielder has struggled to make an impact and has not featured for the club since mid-April. It was widely expected he would move on this summer, though those plans are now uncertain.
Manchester United have already made midfield reinforcements a priority for the summer, having reached a deal for Ederson to join from Atalanta following the conclusion of the World Cup.
