Manchester United bans 685 fan accounts following touting investigation

Manchester United has concluded a widespread investigation into ticket account misuse that began in July. Following the probe, the club has issued bans to 685 accounts, while 464 supporters received either formal warnings or reduced sanctions.

The investigation was launched to dismantle organized ticketing networks that were exploiting the system to control and distribute tickets for financial gain. The club defended its actions as necessary to ensure fair access for genuine supporters, although they acknowledged that the initial handling of the process caused unnecessary distress to some fans, leading to adjustments in their communication methods.

An independent appeals panel was involved in reviewing the cases. In many instances, season ticket bans were upheld, while others saw sanctions reduced to restrictions on home ticket forwarding and away match applications where insufficient evidence of financial gain was found. The club maintains that innocent fans were not punished and that the investigation successfully broke up large-scale organized operations.

United confirmed that until the appeals process is fully resolved, any sanctioned tickets are being sold on a match-by-match basis at standard season ticket prices, insisting they are not profiting from the crackdown.
