Women's Super League champions Manchester City have secured the signing of 22-year-old defender Carlotta Wamser. The Germany international joins the club from Bayer Leverkusen on a four-year deal.
Wamser, who is comfortable playing on either side of the defense, becomes City’s third summer recruit, following the arrivals of Niamh Charles from Chelsea and Beth Mead from Arsenal.
The move provides a timely boost for City as they prepare to defend their title, particularly given the current injury list that includes key players such as Grace Clinton, Vivianne Miedema, Jade Rose, and Laura Wienroither.
I had a perfect welcome here and I already feel very good here and I look forward to my time here in Manchester. The English league is the best league in the world and Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world. Carlotta Wamser
Director of football Therese Sjogran expressed the club's delight at the signing, noting that the staff had admired the young talent for some time. She highlighted that Wamser’s decision to join is a testament to the project currently being built at the club.
Wamser brings international experience, having earned 14 caps for Germany after progressing through the youth ranks, including a victory at the 2019 Under-17 European Championship.
