Manchester City are in active negotiations with Chelsea regarding the appointment of Enzo Maresca as head coach. The primary focus of the discussions is the compensation fee that the Manchester club must pay to the Londoners to facilitate his early release.

According to Sky Sports, legal teams from both clubs are already working on the details of a potential agreement. The situation is complex because Maresca left Chelsea only in January and had three and a half years remaining on his contract, giving the London club the right to demand compensation for his early departure.

This move is significant as the Italian specialist is viewed as the primary candidate to eventually replace Pep Guardiola. For Maresca, this would be a return to a familiar environment, having previously worked within the Manchester City structure, where he led the youth team and served on Guardiola’s coaching staff.

City’s management hopes to resolve all formalities and officially announce the new head coach within the current week.
