Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been ruled out of the upcoming World Cup Round of 16 match after sustaining a muscle injury. The player was substituted at halftime during the 2-1 victory over Japan in the Round of 32, after which he was seen limping on the bench.

An MRI scan performed in New York confirmed a muscle lesion in his thigh. According to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Paqueta will now undergo an intensive care protocol under the supervision of the national team's medical staff, with the aim of returning to action as soon as possible.

This injury marks the second hamstring issue the Seleçao has dealt with during the tournament, following the earlier injury to Raphinha. Brazil is set to play their Round of 16 match this Sunday at MetLife Stadium, where they will face the winner of the Norway vs. Ivory Coast fixture.
