New Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has arrived at the AXA Training Centre to begin his tenure. With the majority of the squad returning on July 14, the Spaniard has just over a month to prepare his team for the Premier League opener away at Newcastle on August 23.
Iraola is set to implement an aggressive, front-foot style of football. He brings a familiar backroom staff with him, including first-team coaches Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper, as well as assistant coach Pablo de la Torre—all of whom worked with him at Bournemouth. Known for his high-intensity approach, Iraola is expected to be deeply involved in training sessions.
The immediate priority is assessing the current squad, including new signing Jeremy Jacquet and players returning from injury, such as Giovanni Leoni and Hugo Ekitike. The staff must also balance the demands of the Premier League with a return to Champions League football, a significant challenge for the new coaching setup.
The club is looking to restore a distinct identity at Anfield after the previous season. Following a pre-season tour of the USA, which includes matches against Sunderland, Wrexham, and Leeds, Liverpool will conclude their preparations with home friendlies against Monaco and Como.
