Lionel Messi has officially finalized his purchase of the Spanish second-division club CD Eldense. The deal, which remains subject to final regulatory approval, makes the Alicante-based club the second Spanish team Messi has invested in, following his acquisition of Cornella back in April.
In an official statement, the club announced that Messi's arrival marks the start of a new chapter for the century-old institution. The project is intended to drive long-term sporting, institutional, and social development for the team, which is currently sitting in 19th place in the 22-team division with one win from seven matches.
Messi, who currently plays for Inter Miami in MLS, reached a preliminary agreement for majority ownership in September. The former Barcelona icon joins a growing group of high-profile players investing in football management, following Cristiano Ronaldo's move to acquire a stake in Spanish side Almeria earlier this year.
