Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams return to Spain training
Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams have returned to full training with Spain ahead of their 2026 World Cup opener against Cape Verde.
Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams returned to full training with Spain at the team's base camp in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Thursday. This news comes as a major relief to head coach Luis de la Fuente, as both players are considered vital components of the team's attacking setup.
The duo, alongside Victor Munoz, had missed the final warm-up friendly against Peru earlier in the week due to injuries. There was significant concern regarding Yamal, who had not played a competitive match since April 22 due to a left hamstring injury. Despite this, the coaching staff anticipates that the 18-year-old will be ready for the opening clash against Cape Verde, though his involvement might be limited to a brief cameo.
The return of the star pair was welcomed with high spirits by the squad during Thursday's session. With the full complement of attacking talent now available, Spain can focus on their tactical preparations for the upcoming group stage campaign.
Spain will face Cape Verde in Atlanta on June 15 to begin their quest for a second World Cup title. The tournament schedule continues with matches against Saudi Arabia on June 21 and Uruguay on June 26.
