India head coach Khalid Jamil has defended goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu following a difficult first half in a 4-0 friendly loss to Brazil at Salt Lake Stadium. Despite the scoreline, Jamil insisted that the veteran custodian remains one of India's finest players.

The match marked Sandhu's 90th international appearance, but he struggled to contain low shots from Estevao and Pedro, leading to his substitution at half-time for Prabhsukhan Singh Gill. Jamil refused to pin the defeat on his goalkeeper, pointing toward defensive lapses as a primary reason for the opening goals.

He is one of the best goalkeepers India has, and we cannot judge him in just two matches, because the next game is coming up. He will be back again. Sometimes it happens. You cannot blame just one player. If you see many mistakes from defenders, allowing him to take a shot. Khalid Jamil

Sandhu's errors during the first half quickly became a social media sensation in Brazil. TNT Sports Brasil famously shared an image of the Indian captain with a sarcastic caption, "Singh Sandhu, obrigado por tudo" (Singh Sandhu, thanks for everything), ironically dubbing him the 'Man of the Match' for his contribution to Brazil's lead.

Despite the defensive issues, Jamil highlighted spirited moments from the squad, noting that India completed 13 dribbles to Brazil's three. He did, however, express frustration with second-half substitutes, urging them to demonstrate greater mental toughness in future international fixtures.

The squad is now focusing on their next challenge against Uruguay. Jamil identified strong performances from Anirudh Thapa, Ryan Williams, and Manvir Singh as building blocks for the upcoming international window, which also includes a match against New Zealand.
