Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol has praised the appointment of new manager Enzo Maresca. The Italian arrives as the successor to the legendary Pep Guardiola, who stepped down after a transformative decade at the club.
"I think he is a perfect one," Gvardiol said. "He has a quality and new ideas, but we need to see what we are going to do with the style of play and the tactics. It's something totally new, so it takes time. It is not easy to change the manager, but it is our job to listen and adapt as quickly as possible."
Maresca, who previously achieved success with Leicester and Chelsea, took charge of his first friendly match against Inter Milan in Hong Kong. Gvardiol noted that the squad felt Guardiola's exit was coming, praising the timing of the announcement for maintaining team focus.
On the leadership transition following the departures of Bernardo Silva and John Stones, Gvardiol highlighted the role of his defensive partner: "Ruben Dias is one of the leaders in our team and he is probably going to be on the top now. He will need support from guys who have been here longer. If that falls on me, I will take responsibility."
