José Mourinho, who has won eight league titles throughout his illustrious career, has shared a humorous take on his recent tenure at Benfica during the 2025-26 season. Despite remaining undefeated throughout the entire league campaign, his side finished in third place, eight points behind champions Porto.
Speaking on the Beast Mode On podcast with Adebayo Akinfenwa, the Portuguese manager joked about the significance of the achievement:
If you want a funny answer, and at the same time an arrogant answer... I won eight championships, but never unbeaten. So now this one counts as nine. It's not a title but it's a good feeling. José Mourinho
Mourinho noted that while they remained unbeaten, they were never top of the table as Porto secured more victories despite suffering a few losses. He admitted that while it wasn't a league win, the feeling of being unbeatable was a positive, comparing it to the legendary Arsenal side of 2003-04.
The coach also reflected on his 2004 Champions League victory with Porto, noting that no Portuguese club has reached a semi-final or final of the competition since then, which he described as "touching the sky."
