Jeff Bezos and consortium advance talks to buy Liverpool stake
Talks for a consortium including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to acquire roughly 30% of Liverpool are progressing.
Negotiations for a consortium that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to purchase approximately 30% of Liverpool are advancing. The group is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia and includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.
Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the current owners of Liverpool, confirmed last month that the group had expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in the club. Amit Bhatia, son-in-law of billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, recently stepped down as a director and co-owner of Queens Park Rangers after an 18-year tenure.
Jeff Bezos, the founder of e-commerce giant Amazon, is ranked as the fourth-wealthiest person in the world with an estimated net worth of 256 billion dollars. His potential involvement marks a significant development for one of the Premier League's most prominent clubs.
FSG purchased Liverpool in 2010 for 300 million pounds. The ownership group previously sold a minority stake in the club to the sports investment firm Dynasty Equity, signaling a strategy of seeking strategic partners to bolster the club's financial position.
