Central defender Jannik Vestergaard has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34. The Danish player shared the news of his decision in an interview with Politiken.

Vestergaard's final club was Leicester City, which he departed in the summer of 2026 following the conclusion of his contract. Throughout his career, he represented several clubs, including Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Southampton.

During his time with Leicester, Vestergaard enjoyed success in the 2024 season, winning the Championship title and earning a place in the divisional Team of the Season for his defensive contributions in England's second tier.

On the international stage, the defender represented the Denmark national team from 2013 to 2025. Over those 12 years, he made 59 appearances, scoring three goals, and featured in major tournaments including the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020.
