Inter Miami forward German Berterame is conscious and recovering in hospital after suffering a head collision during Saturday’s MLS match against CF Montreal, according to head coach Guillermo Hoyos.
The incident occurred in the 70th minute at Saputo Stadium. Following an aerial challenge with Montreal defender Efrain Morales, Berterame landed awkwardly and appeared to lose consciousness. Players from both sides immediately signaled for medical assistance, and the 27-year-old was subsequently taken off the pitch on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital.
He’s recovering right now, he’s fine, conscious. The blow was very strong but he is recovering. Guillermo Hoyos
Hoyos confirmed that the player’s family has been notified. The coach noted that the severity of the impact—which involved an elbow—led to a penalty for Inter Miami. Luis Suarez converted the resulting spot-kick and celebrated by holding up Berterame’s jersey to honor his teammate.
The victory marks Inter Miami’s sixth consecutive win, cementing their position in second place in the Eastern Conference, just two points behind league leaders Nashville. While the focus remains on Berterame’s recovery, the result keeps the club firmly in the hunt for the top spot.
