Harry Kane urges England to stay positive after narrow Nations League defeat

England suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat against Spain in their first outing following the World Cup. Despite the result at Wembley Stadium, captain Harry Kane has urged the squad to remain positive, highlighting the quality shown under new manager Thomas Tuchel.
The match began poorly for the Three Lions, with Lamine Yamal scoring after just two minutes. England responded well, however, with Anthony Gordon equalising before Kane himself headed the hosts into the lead. The captain believes that period of play set a benchmark for the team's potential.
"I think so. So we have to take the positives from it. It’s disappointing now, of course, but we have to dust ourselves down and go again in a few days," said Harry Kane.
The turning point arrived when Kane, usually reliable from the spot, hit the crossbar with a penalty that could have given England a two-goal cushion. Spain capitalised on the reprieve, with goals from Alex Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal securing the win for the world and European champions.
Despite the frustration, Kane pointed out that the gulf between the two sides was minimal. He insists that while England showed they can compete, the final piece of the puzzle is sustaining that pressure for the entire 90 minutes. The team now turns its attention to the upcoming fixture against Czechia on Tuesday, September 29, looking to get their first points on the board in this international window.
