Gustavo Scarpa suffers new injury and misses Atletico match

Atletico Mineiro midfielder Gustavo Scarpa has suffered another injury setback and will not travel with the squad to Belem for Saturday's match against Remo in the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship.

The player experienced pain during Thursday's training session at Cidade do Galo. Subsequent imaging tests revealed an edema in his right adductor muscle. Scarpa has already begun physiotherapy, though the club has not provided a specific timeline for his return to action.

This injury comes shortly after his return from a separate long-term issue. In late May, Scarpa underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and spent the World Cup break in recovery. While he was cleared by the medical department three weeks ago, he had not yet made an appearance on the pitch since completing his rehabilitation from that surgery.

During the 2026 season, Scarpa has made 23 appearances, mostly as a substitute, contributing two goals and five assists.
