Uruguay secured a convincing 4-1 victory over South Korea in an international friendly, marking a significant step forward for the team under the guidance of new head coach Diego Forlán. The result showcased a resurgence of the traditional Uruguayan style of play, known for its defensive discipline and lethal counter-attacking.
La Celeste dominated the first half entirely. Darwin Núñez opened the scoring in the 12th minute, ending his long goal drought for the national team. Giorgian de Arrascaeta doubled the lead shortly after, followed by a spectacular solo run from Guillermo Varela, who capped off an outstanding first half by finding the back of the net.
In the second half, Núñez added his second goal of the match with a header from a Varela cross. Robert Moreno's South Korea side managed to pull one back through Lee Kang-in after Uruguay lost some rhythm following an injury to de Arrascaeta, who left the pitch clutching his forearm.
