The opening round of the Europa League campaign saw two matches reach their conclusion, with Salzburg and OFI Crete claiming important victories.
Salzburg began their European journey with a narrow 1-0 win against Levski. The decisive moment arrived in the 39th minute when Haris Tabakovic found himself in the right position to convert a precise delivery from close range. Despite a spirited effort from the Bulgarian side to level the score after the break, the Austrian team managed to control the game and secure all three points.
Meanwhile, OFI Crete made a statement with a 2-0 victory over Hoffenheim. The Greek side opened the scoring in the 30th minute through Aitor Cantalapiedra, who fired home from inside the penalty area following a swift counter-attack. Although the German side pushed for an equalizer, the OFI defense remained organized throughout. Substitute Georgios Kanellopoulos sealed the win in the 84th minute, marking a challenging start for the visitors.
