Eric Cantona slams Sir Jim Ratcliffe over immigration comments
Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has publicly criticised co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, stating he would not have joined the club under his leadership.
Manchester United icon Eric Cantona has publicly condemned the club's co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, following controversial remarks made by the INEOS chief regarding immigration and social benefits in the UK.
Speaking to United fan Pete Boyle, Cantona was asked whether he would have completed his iconic move from Leeds United in 1992 had Ratcliffe been in charge. The former forward was blunt in his assessment: "No. Of course not. You know what I think about all of this, with this kind of politics. I cannot understand that someone like this can say something like this when he’s one of the owners of the club."
Cantona emphasised that football history is deeply rooted in migration, pointing to the contributions of players from diverse backgrounds across England and France. "Football is a very popular sport. Football is made - all the greatest players come from different waves of immigration," he stated, referencing his own family background and the careers of legends like Raymond Kopa and Michel Platini.
The dispute marks a further deterioration in the relationship between Cantona and the current boardroom. Earlier this year, the Frenchman criticised the new management for sweeping operational changes and job cuts at Old Trafford, accusing the new directors of failing to respect the "soul" of the club.
